One of the first tasks that I ask of my clients after they have retained me is that they complete a Financial Statement (Form 8). The Financial Statement is a sworn affidavit (notarized document) which sets out your current income, current monthly expenses, and a summary of your assets and debts with current values.

The documents which are attached to a Financial Statement and which I would ask a client to provide are as follows:

  • Personal Income Tax Returns for the last 3 years
  • Notices of Assessment as issued by Canada Revenue for the last 3 years
  • Current pay statement
  • Corporate Financial Statements for any companies which you own shares in for the last 3 years
  • Corporate Income Tax Returns for any companies which you own shares in for the last 3 years
  • BC Notices of Assessment for any real property which you hold an interest in
